Overview:    

The Director of Arts leads CDM’s comprehensive Arts Program, shaping the museum’s creative vision across visual, performing, media, and culinary arts. This dynamic leader will design and implement engaging arts experiences for children and families, foster relationships with local artists and cultural organizations, and ensure CDM remains a hub for inclusive, high-quality, and culturally responsive arts engagement. 

The Director oversees the Art Studio and Creation Station, guiding a team that connects museum visitors to meaningful, hands-on artistic exploration. They will collaborate with staff across departments and community partners to develop innovative programming, exhibitions, residencies, and events that reflect Chattanooga’s vibrant arts community.

Qualifications:    

Bachelor’s degree in an arts-related field preferred. 

Minimum 5 years of experience in arts education, programming, or community engagement with children and families.

Proven experience leading staff, managing budgets, and collaborating with artists or nonprofits.

Deep understanding of informal arts education and cultural inclusion.

Job Responsibilities:

Manage arts staff and artists-in-residence, ensuring creative excellence and guest engagement.

Build partnerships with artists, cultural groups, and community organizations.

Support fundraising, grant writing, and strategic partnerships for arts initiatives.

Collaborate across museum departments to integrate the arts into exhibitions and programming.
