Overview:
The Exhibits Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing care, functionality, and quality of the museum’s interactive exhibits. This role oversees the physical upkeep of exhibits across the museum, ensuring interactives remain safe, operational, and engaging for visitors. The Exhibits Coordinator maintains detailed maintenance, refresh, and evaluation logs to support consistent exhibit performance and long-term planning. Working closely with the Director of Experience, this position assists with planning exhibit designs, improvements, and refresh cycles that keep the museum experience dynamic and relevant. The Exhibits Coordinator also collaborates with the Education Coordinator to support the development of programs connected to exhibit themes and learning goals, helping ensure that the museum’s physical spaces and facilitated experiences work together to advance the mission of the Children’s Museum of Northern Colorado.
Qualifications:
GENERAL
- Experience maintaining or fabricating hands-on exhibits, displays, or interactive installations
- Background in fabrication, carpentry, exhibit maintenance, or technical theater
-Experience using common shop tools and maintenance equipment
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair interactive exhibit components
- Experience tracking maintenance schedules and documenting work
- Familiarity with accessibility considerations in public-facing spaces
- Familiarity with standard office suite and basic project tracking software
EDUCATION
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in fabrication, industrial design, theater production, engineering, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent hands-on experience in exhibit fabrication, carpentry, or technical production may be considered in place of a degree
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Experience with design or CAD software
- Familiarity with advanced exhibit fabrication tools and techniques
- Previous experience working in a museum, science center, or other interactive learning environment
- Knowledge of STEAM-based or play-focused learning principles

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
General
- Support the Director of Experience in maintaining the museum’s exhibit operations and standards.
- Assist with managing the Experience Department budget and tracking expenses related to exhibits.
- Collaborate with the Experience Team and other museum staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Experience & Exhibits
- Maintain and ensure the functionality, safety, and durability of all interactive exhibits across the 14,000 SF exhibit floor.
- Document maintenance, refresh, and evaluation logs for all exhibits.
- Collaborate with the Director of Experience on exhibit design, installation, and refresh projects.
- Work with the Education Coordinator to integrate exhibit-associated programs and learning experiences.
- Apply best practices in early childhood education, STEAM learning, arts integration, and play-based learning to exhibit maintenance and updates.
- Use visitor feedback, observation, and data to support ongoing improvements to the guest experience.
Programs & Learning Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to support exhibit-associated programs and activities.
- Provide guidance on exhibit functionality and setup to ensure programs run smoothly and safely.
- Share observations and feedback from exhibits to inform program planning and improvements.
- Assist with preparing exhibits or materials for workshops, special events, and other learning experiences as needed.
