POSITION SUMMARY


The Head of HR is responsible for directing and managing all human resources functions at the museum, directly and through supervision of the Human Resources Coordinator. This includes, but is not limited to; policies and procedures, recruiting, onboarding and offboarding, payroll preparation, salary reviews, benefits administration, staff coaching and professional development as related to HR topics, employee relations, performance management, record keeping, and compliance. 


Qualifications:    


SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


· 5 years HR management experience; non-profit experience preferred.

· Bachelor's degree in business, human resources or another related field; or SHRM CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR highly desired.

· Ability to lead by example in driving change throughout an organization and partnering across all areas and levels of an organization.

· Proven ability to build strong and trusting relationships with co-workers at all levels, and external stakeholders and vendors.

· Working knowledge and understanding of applicable labor and employment laws and regulations at the State of California and federal levels.

· Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.

· Payroll processing experience preferred; knowledge of ADP software helpful.

· Demonstrated experience, knowledge and personal commitment to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

· Well-honed interpersonal and communication skills, especially empathy and listening skills.

· Strong ability to research, compile, analyze, and present information (both written and numerical) clearly.

· A self-starter who can function with minimal direction and has a proven record of accomplishment in a fast-paced work environment.

· Exceptional time management skills with an ability to multi-task and adjust to changing priorities.

· Excellent attention to detail.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, SharePoint.

Job Responsibilities:    


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


· Support supervisors as partners in employee engagement and management with coaching, guidelines, training, and related resources, as needed.

· In partnership with senior leadership, recommend, develop and evaluate and as needed, conduct staff and supervisor development for the organization.

· Direct and ensure appropriate documentation of all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management, offboarding, and terminations, to ensure legal compliance and alignment with organizational values and goals. In consultation with senior leadership, design and direct the annual performance assessment program.

· Research, review, propose and draft new and modified HR-related policies and procedures to ensure compliance and alignment with institutional values and goals for senior management approval. Take full responsibility for the employee handbook, including communication and related training.

· Co-lead museum’s safety program with Head of Facilities and Exhibit Production, including all OSHA and other safety-related processes, communication, training and documentation.

· Serve as the museum’s primary liaison with the union and BADM United, the museum’s bargaining unit.

· Maintain industry compensation benchmark and trends documentation, complete salary surveys as necessary; partner with the CFOO (Chief Financial and Operations Officer) on the annual review, preparation, and administration of museum's salary and benefits budget.

· Develop, manage, and maintain a human resource information system (HRIS) and document retention process that meets the organization's personnel information needs and compliance requirements. Create and maintain clear, consistent, and accessible HR files on SharePoint.

· Develop, generate, analyze, and as needed, present ongoing and ad-hoc reports pertaining to employee recruitment, retention, demographics, and compensation using HRIS and other pertinent data sources. Keep abreast of employment issues and trends in the field.

· Collaborate with Finance Team on bimonthly payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now system.

· Serve as point of contact for all employee benefit plans including medical, dental, vision, life/LTD, FSA, 403(b), etc. In partnership with museum’s insurance broker, review annual benefits renewals and make recommendations for necessary changes; oversee the annual Open Enrollment process. Conduct periodic reviews of insurance broker performance and solicit alternate vendor proposals to ensure quality and value for the museum and its employees.

· Manage 403b enrollments, required documentation, audit, and communications.

· Submit and monitor workers comp and unemployment claims and complete annual workers comp audit with support from Finance Team.

· Consult with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) or CFOO (Chief Financial and Operations Officer), on personnel matters.

· Maintain knowledge of industry issues and trends and federal, state, and local employment legislation to ensure museum's compliance.

· Supervise Human Resources staff.

· Other related duties as required and assigned.
