SALARY: $47,000-$57,000
MISSION STATEMENT: The Mt. Pleasant Discovery Museum exists to enhance the community by inspiring
creativity, learning, and curiosity.
PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: The Executive Director works collaboratively with the Board of
Directors to develop and implement the strategic plan, establish policies, provide leadership, and support for
the staff and volunteers. This person will have overall responsibility for fundraising, planning, program
management, exhibit development and management, financial management, marketing, and community
relations for MPDM, subject to Board of Directors oversight.
KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
Oversee and Manage All Activities of MPDM
1. Works with the BOD to develop a strategic plan/direction, and establish initiatives to fulfill the
mission of the Museum to increase awareness.
2. Directs the operations to include exhibit development, fundraising, education and public
programming, finance, external communications, and staffing.
3. Builds a well-functioning leadership team that encourages collaborative thinking throughout the
organization.
4. Create alignment around job responsibilities by delegating appropriate activities/authority to the
staff for them to be able to succeed and support the MPDM and its mission.
5. Leads, manages, and evaluates the leadership team.
6. Develop an annual budget with the Director of Finance and Operations and the Finance Committee
for BOD approval each December.
7. Manage a relationship with a 3rd party accounting partner.
8. Is fiscally responsible for all departments of the MPDM.
9. Informs the BOD of all operational and organizational issues as part of the BOD and committee
meetings.
Represent MPDM in the Community
1. Develop and secure new partnerships for the Museum each year.
2. Manage ongoing strategic partnerships.
3. Actively advocate for early childhood education and issues by networking with other non-profit
executive directors in the community and state.
4. Create and enhance community relationships to ensure MPDM serves its diverse, disadvantaged, and
marginalized populations.
5. Represent the Museum at community events.
6. Host stakeholder events at the Museum.
7. Manage a collaborative relationship with the BOD.
8. Directs the overall development of public relations and marketing initiatives.
9. Develop an effective communications plan to raise the profile of the museum.
Lead Operating Fund Development
1. Leads and oversees all fundraising initiatives and activities.
2. Leads and oversees all research, writing, and management of grants including all reporting
requirements. Report results to the BOD.
3. Work with the Development Committee to develop a fundraising strategy for: Foundations,
Corporations, Individuals.
4. Work with the Development Committee to coordinate and communicate fundraising strategies and
annual events to the BOD.
5. Steward relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
Lead Capital Campaign
1. Actively participate on campaign development committee
2. Work with BOD in developing campaign budget
3. Manage campaign budget with the Finance Committee and the Campaign Chairperson to deliver
regular BOD updates
4. Build prospective donor lists with the BOD and Campaign members.
5. Direct cultivation strategies for prospective donors to share with the BOD
6. Manage campaign calendar with Committee Chairpersons to communicate to the BOD
