Overview:    


General Description: The Museum Educator–STEM creates and delivers programming with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum for children ages 0 – 12 years old. The STEM Educator presents Educational and engaging bilingual programs in the Museum’s portable Planetarium, both at the Museum and within a 100-mile radius. The Museum Educator creates, coordinates, and facilitates programs inhouse and in the community focused on STEM utilizing the museums resources and interactive exhibits to ensure that guests and families with children ages 0 – 12 years old have an exceptional experience.



Qualifications:    


Bachelor’s Degree in Science field or Education with a Science endorsement, background in early childhood or elementary education.

3+ years’ experience as a science focused educator in a children’s museum, education setting, or early childhood environment.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Highly proficient with technology in a PC environment.

Reliable transportation, insurance and valid driver’ license. 



Job Responsibilities:    


Planning, development, implementation, and coordination of weekly STEM focused education programs at Santa Fe Children’s Museum, including but not limited to story times, theme-based activities, Science Saturday, Camps, Planetarium and Grab & Go Kits (STEM focused developmentally appropriate kits for parents & caregivers to do with young children at home).

Travels to communities throughout Northern New Mexico to present STEM and Planetarium programs both in person and “virtually.”

Schedules paid and complementary school and other outreach events for STEM focused programs.

Maintains Planetarium both physically and technologically, adding updates/upgrades as needed.

Develops and maintains procedural manual on Planetarium maintenance and programs.

Develops and implements evaluation tools to measure, interpret, and analyze the outcomes of education and public programs relative to strategic goals.

Remain current with education standards, child development practices, and children’s museum best practices for STEM related programs.

Create reports and evaluations for grant requirements.

Oversee securing supplies and materials for programs.

Researches and stays current on presentation techniques and actively delivers fun and engaging, educational programs.

Other Museum related duties as assigned.
