This senior leadership role combines strategic vision with hands-on operational expertise to ensure our museum thrives as both a beloved community institution and a sustainable organization.
Qualifications:

You combine strategic thinking with practical problem-solving, and you understand that in a children's museum, every operational decision ultimately supports moments of connection, discovery, and joy. 3-5 years in a non-profit or similar organization and strong budget oversight experience is preferred.
Job Responsibilities:
Your Impact: As our Director of Operations, you'll shape the future of a place where childhood wonder meets operational excellence. You'll lead the teams that transform our mission from inspiring words into daily reality, while ensuring our organization runs smoothly and efficiently.
Key Areas:
Strategic Leadership & Innovation
● Partner with senior leadership to craft and execute strategies that advance our museum's vision
● Foster a vibrant workplace culture where accountability meets playfulness
● Lead and mentor key team members, including our Welcome Desk Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Finance Manager, and Facilities Team
● Transform processes and systems to enhance both visitor experience and operational efficiency (example: streamline data collection to better leverage marketing strategy)
● Attend Board of Directors meetings with other leadership staff members and work collaboratively with the Finance and HR committees
● Assist in the implementation of the museum’s strategic plan.
Financial Stewardship & Growth
● Drive revenue strategies across admissions, memberships, events, and retail
● Work in collaboration with Executive Director to increase earned revenue streams to be approximately 50% of overall revenue
● Collaborate with our Finance Committee of the board to ensure fiscal responsibility while investing in growth
● Develop innovative approaches to enhance our membership and rental programs
● Oversee management of our CRM system (Humanitru), POS system (Square), and financial software (Quickbook) to ensure optimal data collection and strategic growth
● Focus on sustainable growth in visitation (currently 30,000 onsite visitors and 20,000 outreach participants) and help to set best practices related to capacity onsite.
Operational Excellence + Human Resources
● Orchestrate daily operations to create seamless experiences for visitors and staff
● Ensure our facility remains a safe, welcoming space for exploration and discovery
● Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and community partners
● Oversee policies and procedures related to the hiring, training, and retainment of the staff team
