Education Specialist: Early Childhood

Description

This individual project manages special projects relating to early childhood programs for children 0-7 years old. They are responsible for developing all early childhood STEM curricula for the Education Department including: workshops, educator professional development, family programs, conference presentations and camps. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: engaging and educating children ages 0-7, early childhood educators and their caregivers about STEM and various sciences with the use of age appropriate, inquiry based, hands-on activities in an informal setting. In addition, they will deliver educational content in one the following ways: hands-on workshops, educator professional development, family programming both on and off museum grounds. 

 

1. Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, education, or science with a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working with children ages 0-7 years. Degree may be substituted for 5 years relevant work experience in the field of early childhood or informal learning. 

 

2. Experience: 

• Prior teaching experience with early childhood (0-7 years old) children, educators and caregivers.

• Knowledge of preschool and early childhood systems including best practice.

• Ability to work in a fast pace, team oriented environment.

• Ability to establish and maintain an effective rapport with others.

• Excellent communication skills; presentation and public speaking.

• Reliable, organized, self-starter; ability to work with little direct supervision.

• Enthusiastic, friendly, outgoing; must love working with people

 

3. Certifications: A valid driver’s license is required.

• Performs the function of project manager for assigned special projects relating to early childhood programs.

• Works in conjunction with the Vice President of Education to foster relationships with external partners, develop timelines and contracts as needed to ensure completion of all grant and sponsor deliverables for assigned projects.

• Develops all early childhood science curricula for the Education Department including; workshops, educator professional development, family programs, conference presentations and camps.

• Delivers early childhood programing in accordance with the STEM Discovery Center’s brand and values to engage young children, educators and their caregivers in high-quality hands-on activities and instruction.

• Creates and delivers education staff trainings for early childhood programs and pedagogy.

• Completes routine education staff program evaluations and provides coaching and feedback. 

• Ensures all programs are developmentally appropriate and align with Florida State Early Childhood Domains and preschool requirements as needed. 

• Creates assessments, pre and post tools, and evaluations as needed for reporting requirements. 

• Monitors quality control for all early childhood education curricula and updates existing programs and content as needed.

• Maintains a safe and secure environment for guests and staff.

• Keeps current in science and education related to OSC’s content and exhibits.

• Demonstrates commitment to OSC's vision, mission and values.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
