Description

The President & CEO of the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum is responsible for day-to-day operations and the successful pursuit of the museum’s financial goals, strategic objectives and mission to provide a hands-on, “Play and Learn” environment that engages and motivates children to use their curiosity and creativity to learn about the wonders of our world.

 

 

Main Leadership and Management Responsibilities

 Provide for efficient day-to-day management of all administrative operations, delegating work as appropriate; 

 Lead, inspire and mentor staff toward pursuing museum goals; hire, train, supervise, develop and evaluate staff, ensuring that staffing meets the museum’s needs; ensure policies and procedures are consistently implemented; cultivate a work environment and culture that encourages retention of qualified staff; 

 Contribute to creation of the museum’s strategic plan and engage staff and volunteers toward accomplishment of plan objectives; 

 Develop collaborations and partnerships, in conjunction with the Events Coordinator and Play Educator, to advance the museum’s goals; 

 Coordinate and provide oversight for security and safety for the facility, staff, volunteers and guests;

 Manage museum financial operations; ensure strong controls are in place and monitor compliance; produce all necessary materials for the annual audit in conjunction with the Bookkeeper;

 Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors: serve as ex-officio member of each strategic sub-committee, seek and build board involvement;

 Supply the Board of Directors with complete, accurate and timely reports and data required for informed decisions; proactively bring recommendations to the Board in matters related to objectives, policies and strategy; 

 Identify and help recruit new Board members whose talents, interests and commitment will help to advance the museum’s mission and programs; 

 Actively seek opportunities to publically advocate for the museum; serve as museum spokesperson;

 

Main Exhibit and Programming Responsibilities

 Provide direction for the development of new, fun and inspiring exhibits, outreach and educational programs; leverage the galleries in ways that deepen guests’ experience; 

 Maintain, in conjunction with the Facilities Coordinator, museum exhibits, facility and grounds;

 Work collaboratively with other museums and attractions, thought-leaders in the field, schools, universities, volunteers and community members to strengthen programming and exhibits; 

 

Main Contributed and Earned Income Management Responsibilities

 Serve as the chief fundraiser for the museum; work with the Board and staff to drive annual fundraising events and appeal; 

 Research and apply for grant opportunities and contributions from foundations, businesses, government entities; strengthen fundraising systems, workflows and donor recognition; 

 Cultivate relationships with individual contributors;

 Monitor grant compliance and generate necessary reports;

 Grow the endowment, enabling the museum to continually upgrade exhibits, maintain the facility, and provide for financial stability as the institution matures; 

 Expand and diversify revenue streams from admissions, facility rentals, concessions, gift shop and other sources.

Qualifications Master's degree preferred with minimum 15 years successful professional experience with emphasis in museum management and fundraising. Proven experience in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing a start-up organization.
Salary $52,000-58,000
