Project Coordinator, Community Engagement and Partnership Development
Please Touch Museum is a non-profit organization seeks to hire a Project Coordinator, Community Engagement and Partnership Development for a 21-month project. This position may also be contracted on a consultant basis.
In February 2019, PTM will open an innovative temporary exhibit, America to Zanzibar, that highlights the vibrant contributions Muslim communities have made throughout history, around the world as well as in Philadelphia. The Coordinator will be responsible as the external face of this project to identify and nurture partnerships with community organizations to develop a broad audience for this transformative exhibit, and assure that audience's creative engagement with it. The Coordinator will interface with and manage all community partnership communications on strategy and program content, key messaging, and outreach.
The Coordinator reports directly to the Director, Education. This position will start in January 2018 and run through the close of the exhibit in September 2019.
Minimum Qualifications: B.A. or B.S. Urban Studies, Diversity & Intercultural studies; Social work, Bilingual & Multicultural studies or similar related fields; minimum of 3 years demonstrating successfully building relationships and working with diverse populations and traditionally underserved communities in a large, urban city.; strong project management skills required; demonstrates commitment in understanding individuals that represent diverse disciplines, geographies and cultures; understands the principles of diversity and inclusion in planning, program development and exhibition design; excellent written skills; excellent presentation skills; excellent interpersonal skills; excellent computer skills; requires independent thought and an experienced decision maker; able to professionally represent the Museum at Community programs and meetings; will be an ambassador for the Museum in different cultural structures; interpretive knowledge, museum early childhood development knowledge, performance experience, community work and some knowledge of digital learning experiences; candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply; demonstrates ability to assess culturally diverse program effectiveness in terms of engagement, success, mission, and execution.
Primary Duties: Collaborate with Muslim leaders to establish key relationships with community groups, individuals, and relevant cultural institutions to identify community partner organizations; oversee community relationships and engagement; travel to community partner sites; convene meetings with partners to represent Muslim communities; ensure that the execution of exhibit components tied specifically to Philadelphia's communities are accurate; in collaboration with partners, work to build the audience and engagement in America to Zanzibar that will build acceptance and understanding among those who experience the exhibit or are reached through media and promotional channels; in collaboration with community advisors and partners, develop programming that ensures the exhibit reflects the diverse histories and values of Philadelphia's Muslim population; with the assistance of Director, Exhibits, partner with local museums to incorporate Islamic arts and artifacts; and will work with the Chief Engagement Officer to gather data on cultural programs related to serving diverse population throughout the year.
