Knock Knock Children’s Museum is seeking a dynamic individual with a passion for play to bring to life immersive programming that animates our Learning Zones (hands-on exhibitions) and enhances the visitor experience. Program Specialists are responsible for leading a variety of programs and facilitating classes and workshops designed around content presented in Knock Knock’s Learning Zones.
As an integral member of the Education Team, the Program Specialists will work throughout the Museum to ensure that all guests, families, and school groups have an outstanding experience. S/he must enjoy working with children and must be passionate about reducing barriers to participation for the diverse audiences of the Capital Area.

- High School Degree required, Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred; - Ability to teach both formally and informally; - Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently as well as maintain high standards of customer service at all times; - Be able to stand or sit for long periods of time; - Be able to work in environments that range from loud and busy to quiet and calm; - Have experience working with young children (ages 0-5) and families; - Have a good sense of humor and a love of play; - Positive demeanor; - Thrives in a youth centered atmosphere; - Innovative thinker with a positive attitude and creative problem solving skills; - Excels within a strength-based culture and is excited to join a nimble and talented team;
- Breaking down barriers to participation; - Facilitating day-to-day activities hosted by the museum (field-trips, scout events, homeschool groups, and outreach); - Following a system of standards that educational programs must adhere; - Motivating parents to play and work with their children; - Visually and audibly supervising children; - Orienting, informing, and training volunteers; - Preparing materials for the Learning Zones and for volunteers; - Evaluating the successes and shortcomings of each program; - Working in close collaboration with the Education Team to understand how educational programs can meet the needs of the museum and community; - Work with the Play Workers to maintain orderly exhibit spaces;
