STEAM & School-Aged Programs Coordinator


The STEAM and School-Aged Programs Coordinator is responsible for developing, leading, and evaluating a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math programs for school-aged children and their caregivers that utilize the museum’s exhibits and collections. This includes but is not limited to onsite school programs, camps, fee-based classes, traveling outreach programs, activities for the STEAM Innovation Lab, curriculum development and special events. Mentors Experience Guides, interns and education volunteers. Actively creates, executes and tracks program evaluation.

Exemption Status
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or an education related field plus one year of teaching experience. Ability to work with a variety of ages from pre-school to grade 6. Experience with technology such as 3-D printing, coding, and Arduino is a plus.
Job Responsibilities
• Responsible for developing and evaluating interpretive, curriculum-based programs for a school-aged audience. • Develops & trains other education team members on exhibit-based focused group visits, traveling focused group visits and other school-aged outreach programs. • Develops and teaches school-aged audience classes, programs, focused group visits, camps, library outreach programs and other classes as required. • Develops curriculum materials and scripts for STEAM video content for distance learning and a library of content for the STEAM Innovation Lab, including videos with partner organizations. • Develops, leads and evaluates teacher professional development opportunities related to STEAM and inquiry/project-based learning. • Responsible for organizing and coordinating particular special events in the museum such as Robo-palooza, Maker Faire activities, and FoodWorks. • Researches and develops material to assist Experience Guides in facilitating successful exhibit interactions and enhancing the exhibit experience for visitors. • Develops and implements changing STEAM programs and drop-in activities for visitors encountered during regular visiting hours and trains experience guides how to facilitate them. • Develops and manages the overall plan for the STEAM Innovation Lab, coordinates activity schedule and weekly rate of change, purchases materials and collaborates with partner organizations and funders to enliven the space and fulfill the Museum’s vision. • Gives input, feedback, and evaluates existing exhibits under the direction of the Exhibit Team. • Manages program materials and coordinates material purchases for STEAM programs and events. • Assists Education Director in the planning and implementation of Overnight programs. • Provides program content for newsletters, press releases, blogs, posters and other outlets as needed. • Researches and shares best practices in STEAM informal learning and curriculum standards to keep the Museum relevant. • Provides feedback to Education Director for Educator evaluations and contributes to the decision-making regarding the hiring and firing of Experience Guide Educators. • Coordinates programmatic and space needs with Visitor Services department and Bookings Manager. • Communicates STEAM Lab and programmatic needs and information with experience guides and floor manager. • Responsible for promoting, greeting and administering evaluations for the Museum In Reach program and visiting groups. • Works as an Experience Guide Educator on the floor on an emergency basis determined by Museum needs.
