Chief Development Officer


The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible for designing, strategizing, planning, managing and implementing the overall fundraising strategy for the Glazer Children’s Museum to achieve and exceed operating objectives. The Chief Development Officer will ensure the effective delivery of the Museum’s vision, mission and brand through its fundraising programs and will establish secure diversified funding resources for its future. The Chief Development Officer will lead staff, Board members and volunteers in building upon current contributors as well as developing new connections with individual donors, corporations, foundations, governmental entities , etc. that results in increased contributed income, planned giving, endowments, and long-term sustainability of the Museum.
She/He must demonstrate a proven track record in providing creative and innovative leadership in resource development and in promoting and administering dynamic fundraising strategies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in the full spectrum of development activities including capital campaigns, with a special emphasis in soliciting major gifts of $100,000 to $1,000,000+ from a variety of sources over a sustained period of time. She/He will be self-motivated, results-oriented, creative, entrepreneurial, highly energetic and intelligent, with exceptional interpersonal, ethical and organization skills that apply to a wide ranging list of contacts.

Qualifications The Chief Development Officer must have the ability to build strong relationships with the Museum’s Board of Directors and its committees and volunteers. This position will have a collaborative partnership with the President and CEO and will participate as a member of the Museum’s Senior Leadership Team, leading a department with polish and substance. The Chief Development Officer will work collaboratively to forecast the Museum’s potential development revenue capabilities and project strategic long-range fund development plans and specific strategies to successfully secure these resources. Specific requirements include: • Passion for the mission, vision and values of the Glazer Children’s Museum • Bachelor’s Degree, CFRE required • Minimum of 7–10 years of comprehensive development experience in similar roles of increasing responsibility and leadership in the nonprofit sector • Demonstrated success in securing multiple major gifts ($100,000+) from individuals, foundations and corporations, sustained over time • Experience with capital campaigns, endowments and endowment strategies • Administrative and management experience related to the development function • Ability to communicate effectively, efficiently and in the public eye • Knowledge of and experience working with Tampa Bay area philanthropic community with a special ability to also seek national partnerships, funds and investments • Team oriented • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of computer programs, specifically Word, Power Point and Excel, as well as, fundraising software, particularly Razor’s Edge/Blackbaud products. Job Responsibilities Corporate & Annual Giving • Lead efforts to design, implement and evaluate strategies for the stewardship of all aspects of fundraising including individuals, corporations, foundations and government. This strategic effort will focus not only on local philanthropists, but national foundations and corporations. • Establish an action plan and a presence in the community to increase the organization’s visibility, identify opportunities and programs to engage new donors, and maintain grant opportunities and relationships with current and past donors. • Develop and implement successful fundraising events annually with the Senior Director of Development that build and expand on the current track record of financial success coupled with being a showcase of the Museum’s values, content, and vitality as a community gem. • Build and diversify funding base and matching grant opportunities with programmatic priorities with local, regional and national entities. • Supervise the grant proposals for foundations, corporations and governmental opportunities. • Spearhead and supervise donor stewardship and gift acknowledgement, recordkeeping and reporting requirements both internally and externally. • Creates, implements, and refines audience development plans for acquiring, renewing, and upgrading donors and prospects. Membership • Strengthen, advertise and grow the Museum’s membership base and cultivate members as future donors. Systems and Staff Development • Creates, implements, and refines a Museum-wide action plan for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors and prospects that allows the Development Team to actively achieve the strategic initiatives set forth in annual, capital, and endowment campaigns, along with any informal campaign plans • Create and supervise systems of communication, filing, correspondence and cross-referencing between the Board, Senior Leadership Team, and all team members who interact with donors regularly. Assist with the onboarding of a new Customer Relationship Management software. • In collaboration with the President & CEO, works closely with the Board of Trustees, Executive Team, and Campaign leadership to identify funding priorities in order to plan and implement comprehensive campaign strategies and accomplish team goals. • Develop dashboards and reporting metrics for both internal and Board use that capture, in brief, the overall health and wellness of the financial positioning of the organization. • Effectively staffs and briefs the President & CEO in her role as chief fundraiser for the Museum, matching the President & CEO with the Museum’s top donors and prospects in an appropriate strategy for engaging these donors and prospects in the Museum’s mission and vision. Major Gifts • Develop and implement a major gifts program for the Museum to engage and cultivate new partners that will increase the number and size of gifts over time. • Lead, in conjunction with the CEO, an effort to seed-fund an “innovation Fund” and a “Building Fund” to ensure overall innovation opportunities as well as the care and keeping of the Museum’s exhibits and physical building. • Supervise a robust Annual Giving campaign. • Research, prepare and forecast a strategic “Transformative Gifts” campaign. • Employ the highest of professional standards while demonstrating the sensitivity necessary to successfully engage and interact with high level donors. • In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, oversee the development of a comprehensive portfolio of communication materials for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship support including Annual Reports, collateral material and other campaign material. Other Duties and Responsibilities • Participate as an active member of the Museum’s Senior Leadership Team. • Collaborate effectively with other Museum departments to ensure the seamless flow of information needed for activities such as writing grants, producing reports and external communications. • Create and sustain strong working relationships with the President and CEO, leadership staff, as well as with the Museum Foundation’s Board of Directors. • Develop an annual fundraising budget, benchmarks and metrics for the Museum and the Foundation to ensure budgetary goals are met or exceeded done in collaboration with key development team members and other members of the Glazer Children’s Museum team. • Manage and mentor staff fundraising team, Board members, committee members and community volunteers. • Maintain office and CRM software systems to support all development projects and operations. • Develop relationships and actively engage with other Development Professionals, both in the immediate region and across the nation, with a special emphasis on museums and informal education.
