Manager of Human Resources and Administration


Knock Knock Children’s Museum is seeking its first full-time Manager of Human Resources and Administration to aid the development, management, and resourcing of a well-trained staff energized to jump start museum operations. Reporting to the Deputy Director, and in collaboration with the leadership team and the support of the Human Resources Committee, the Manager of Human Resources and Administration will develop and administer Knock Knock’s organizational policies and procedures, office management, human resource functions, day to day financial reporting, and professional development and training program. The incumbent will be instrumental in maintaining a high-functioning work-culture in which all employees have access to necessary resources and work from their strengths and values.
The Manager of Human Resources and Administration should be detail-oriented, personable, proactive, organized, and passionate about Knock Knock’s important mission to be the community spark for high quality learning experiences through play for all children in the Capital Region, in particular the increasing population of children growing up in under resourced environments.
The successful candidate will relish the opportunity to be at the center of the nimble and efficient staff and corps of dedicated volunteers all working to ensure that Knock Knock is a vital and necessary educational resource and a family favorite destination for the Capital Region. As a lead administrator for Knock Knock’s growing staff, the Manager of Human Resources and Administration will excel in collaborating with the entire Leadership Team, all staff members, Board and committee members, and other community leaders.

Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred; - 5 or more years of experience – preferably with a nonprofit, museum, or cultural institution - in areas of supply management, financial management, delegation, staffing, human resources, managing processes, supervision, developing policies and procedures, and reporting skills; - Experience supervising and mentoring direct reports; - Passionate about talent management and ongoing professional development; - Excels within a strength-based culture and is excited to join a nimble and talented team; - Financial management experience; - Innovative thinker with a positive attitude and creative problem solving skills; - Exceptional written and oral communication abilities; - An ability to establish working relationships with community members, volunteers, committee members, colleagues, and museum visitors.
Job Responsibilities - Coordinate the ongoing development of the organizations policies and procedures, resulting in a thorough employee handbook, volunteer handbook, and Board handbook; - Directly supervises the positions of Volunteer Coordinator, IT Specialist, and Administrative Assistant - Maintains office efficiency by planning and implementing office systems, layouts, and equipment procurement; - Oversees administrative duties including but not limited to: establishing communication protocols, designing records and archive systems, and assigning and monitoring clerical functions; - Manages office supply inventory and general office organization and appearance; - Handles ongoing record keeping within the office, with regards to employees, vendors, contractors, and any other entities that deal with the operations of the museum; - Coordinates HR functions with all employees and maintains secured employee files; - Manages on-boarding of new staff and facilitates orientations and trainings; - Facilitates and tracks professional development customized for Knock Knock employees; - Facilitates all aspects of employee performance appraisals; - Works closely with the contracted Accountant/Bookkeeper, Visitor Services Coordinator, and Database Manager on day to day financial management.
